Thực phẩm chế biến và đóng gói sẵn: Thường chứa chất tạo màu cùng các chất phụ gia có thể làm trầm trọng thêm các triệu chứng tăng động giảm chú ý. Không chỉ trẻ mắc chứng rối loạn hành vi này mà tất cả trẻ đều nên hạn chế tiêu thụ thực phẩm có chứa phẩm màu ở mức tối thiểu.
Caffeine: Đây là chất kích thích có thể ảnh hưởng xấu đến hệ thần kinh trung ương và tim khi tiêu thụ với lượng lớn. Học viện Nhi khoa Mỹ (AAP) khuyến cáo không nên sử dụng đồ uống có chứa caffeine như nước ngọt, cà phê, trà cho trẻ dưới 5 tuổi.
Tiêu thụ quá nhiều caffeine còn có thể gây ra tác dụng phụ như ức chế sự thèm ăn, mất ngủ, có thể làm triệu chứng tăng động nặng hơn.
